The curriculum of Aga Khan University Medical College (AKU-MC) emphasizes both high quality medical care for patients with complex multiple pathology and community based primary care. Students acquire experience of clinical care in Aga Khan University Hospital and of primary care in Karachi's poorest neighborhoods.
Postgraduate programme include residency training in 25 and fellowship training in 9 clinical sub-specialties, a Masters degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics as well as Health Policy and Management and a PhD in Health Sciences.
Research in the Faculty of Health Sciences spans many disciplines but particularly emphasizes problems of the developing world, such as investigation of the causes and treatment of childhood diarrhea, studies of the immunological characteristics of tuberculosis and leprosy, and community-based health systems development.
